truss roofing

TRUSS ROOFS
BY: HAMISH BLANCHETT

we started on the 29Th of June 2009 beginning by setting up a workshop with desks ass walls we then screwed wall plates on to the desks to start our truss roofs all the trusses were already made up as you have to have a license to build them we gradually marked out and stood up and then braced into place the shape was the rectangular shape roof after that was up and braced we then started setting out for the intersecting roofs (minor) on both sides of the rectangle shape(major) .

To start erecting our intercepting minor roofs we first marked out and installed our truncated gurrder trusses then we marked out and screwed into place the saddle trusses then marked out and put the hip trusses on either corner of the truncated gurrder truss intercepting with each other at the centre line of the minor roof as the same as the jack truss after they were all standing and braced (temporally) we screwed to lengths of 30x 70 pine to the top of the major roof for the first row of batons we then realised we had to put the speed bracing on under the batons speed bracing is a length of steel with a bend in the middle running length ways with holes in for nailing or screwing to the frame it is only useful if used in a x shape or a v shape for tension.
step by step:
1) set up wall plates screwed to desks to plan measurements
2)measured and marked out places for first standard trusses
3) once the first standard truss was stood up we braced it temporarily with scrap lengths of timber screwed to truss and desk
4) from the center line of the truss we marked out for the other trusses along the wall plates
5)once the trusses were all up on the major roof we set out for the minor roof's on either side of the major roof
6) after it was marked out we put our truncated truss up then our jack truss and hip trusses screwed them all together using trip-l-grips.
7) then came the speed bracing in a (x) shape on both sides of the major roof two cross sections on each side
8) when then marked out and installed our valley boards and battens
9) then last we installed our fashure to the front of the minor roofs.
